Non-Dairy Milk Alternatives

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

Dairy milk was considered as a most nutritious, healthy, and beneficial drink but not anymore!

The advancement in science has brought many changes in the lifestyle of a normal human being and in food too. Food scientist has found a new source of milk, and that's called non- dairy milk.

Soy Milk

Soy milk is derived from soybeans and filtered water. It is a perfect alternative of whole milk as it contains as much protein as cow’s milk. It is naturally free from cholesterol and low in saturated fat which means it is safe for diabetics and CVD patients. Besides these benefits, it can also be used by lactose intolerant as it is lactose-free milk.

It is a good source of potassium and can be fortified with calcium and different vitamins.

*Ignore soy milk if you are allergic to soy*

Almond Milk

Almond milk is obtained from ground almonds and filtered water. Starch and thickening agents are used by different food industries to increase the consistency and shelf life of the milk.

It is also lower in cholesterol as compared to other kinds of milk, lactose-free and naturally free of saturated fat

Although almond milk is not a good source of calcium, but not to worry about it anymore, the latest development has made it possible for the scientist to fortify almond milk with calcium.

*Avoid almond milk if you are allergic to nuts or almonds*

Oat Milk

Oat milk is a great choice for people with nut, soy, and lactose allergies or heart disease as it contains beta-glucans- a soluble fiber that may offer hearth health benefits.

It has a delicious milky taste, made with soaked oats. Naturally, it is not as nutritious and healthy as whole milk but it can be fortified with calcium, iron, potassium, and vitamins.

So, what are you waiting for? You can now drink milk without any hesitation.
